E. T. A. Hoffmann wrote
The Sandman
in
1816. Hoffmann was a German writer. The story
is about a man, Nathanael, with a problem.
Nathanael does not knowwhat is real and what
is a dream. Hoffmann does not tell the reader.
At the end of the story, he lets the reader decide.
Was Nathanael dreaming? Or were the things he
saw real?
