Introduction
E. T. A. Hoffmann wrote
The Nutcracker
and the Mouse King
in 1816. Hoffmann was a
German writer. In 1892, the Russian composer
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky wrote his famous
ballet,
The Nutcracker
, from this story. Today,
Tchaikovsky’s ballet is much more famous
than Hoffmann’s story.
