Introduction
Alphonse Daudet was a French writer. He
lived during the 1800s. He wrote novels, plays,
and short stories. “The Last Lesson” is a short
story about Prussia taking over Alsace in 1870.
Prussia then became Germany. Alsace was part
of Germany until the end of World War I. In
1918, Alsace became part of France again. This
was many years after Daudet died.
