Introduction
O. Henry’s real name was William Sydney
Porter. He was an American writer who wrote
short stories for magazines at the beginning of
the 20
th
century. He wrote over 600 short stories!
Many of these stories had surprise endings just
like “The Last Leaf.” Other famous stories by O.
Henry are “The Ransom of Red Chief” and “The
Gift of the Magi.”
