Today is January 6, 1482. Every year at this time,
there is a special celebration in Paris. It is called the
Festival of Fools. There is a lot of singing and dancing.
Also, the people of Paris choose the ugliest man and make
him a special person for the day.
“Look at this man!”
a man cries out. The man points
to another man on a platform by the street.
“He is trying
to make himself ugly, but he’s much too handsome.”
Everyone laughs. Then a woman screams.
“Ahhhh! It is a monster! Look at this one!”
she cries. She is
pointing at a strange figure on the platform.
