An
element
is a basic part of nature. Each element is
made of only one kind of atom. Elements combine to
form everything we know and use.
Carbon
is one element. The dark gray or black carbon
is a solid. Carbon combines with other elements to form
other things. These other things no longer look like
carbon. It makes something else. All living things have
some kind of carbon in them.
