at the title page and read the title together.

about the story?

Do you think the boy likes the pet? How do
you know?
While You Read:
Have students read the story quietly.
Give them something specific to focus on. For example:
Read the story to find
out about the things the rats do.
If necessary, assist the children with the first one or two pages, and then
encourage them to read on their own.
Help students as needed.
After You Read:
Ask questions about what students have read.
