Introduction
Anne Claude de Caylus was a rich, well-
educated Frenchman. He lived in the 1700s.
He was a count in France. In French, the word
for “count” is
comte
. When writing, he used
the name, Comte de Caylus. Comte de Caylus
enjoyed art, writing, and studying history. Most
of the stories he wrote were fairy tales or fantasy
stories. The stories that Comte de Caylus wrote
were not for children. He made stories to tell to
his friends.
